How it works

Four steps from a folder of files to a single, ordered PDF - entirely in your browser.

  1. 1. Add your files

Drag PDFs and images onto the page or click the drop zone. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, BMP, SVG, and PDF inputs are all accepted.

  2. 2. Reorder, rotate, trim

Drag cards to change the output order. Rotate any item in 90° steps, and for multi-page PDFs type a range like 1-3, 5, 7-9 to keep only those pages.

  3. 3. Pick output settings

Choose page size (Auto, A4, Letter, Legal), orientation, and margin - or leave everything on Auto for a zero-whitespace PDF that matches each file's content.

  4. 4. Merge and download

Click Merge into one PDF. The browser builds the final document with pdf-lib and downloads it automatically - typically in seconds.

What is a PDF merge?

Merging PDFs means combining multiple source documents - PDFs, images, or a mix of both - into a single PDF where every input lands on its own page (or pages) in an order you control. The result is one file you can send, archive, or print without worrying that pages will arrive out of order or get separated.

Most online PDF mergers force you to upload your files. That creates copies on someone else's server, even briefly, which is a problem for contracts, receipts, scans of IDs, or anything else you'd rather not hand off. Subformer's merge tool runs the whole pipeline - decoding HEIC, rendering page thumbnails, embedding pages with pdf-lib, writing the final PDF bytes - in your browser. Open the network panel while merging and you'll see zero requests to our servers.

We rebuilt the workflow around reordering and page-range selection because that's where most merges actually take time: not the merge itself but figuring out which pages to include and in what order. Drag-and-drop is the primary gesture, keyboard reordering is supported, and live thumbnails make it obvious what each card represents.

Common use cases

What people typically merge - and why a browser-side tool with reordering is faster than the alternatives.

  • Expense reports

Combine receipts shot with your phone (HEIC, JPG) and bank PDFs into a single attachment for finance. Drag to put the date-ordered scans in the right order before exporting.

  • Multi-page scans

Scanner apps often output one image per page. Drop the images here, reorder if pages came out shuffled, rotate any landscape captures, and download a single A4 or Letter PDF ready to share.

  • Contracts and signed pages

Merge an unsigned contract PDF with photos of the signature pages. Pick page ranges to swap a specific signed page back into the original without re-printing the entire contract.

  • Academic submissions

Combine the typed report (PDF), figures (PNG or SVG), and appendix scans into one upload-ready PDF that fits the assignment portal's single-file requirement.

  • Travel documents

Stack passport scan, visa, booking PDFs, and insurance into one document. Easy to email to yourself or print at the airport without chasing seven separate files.

  • Sales / proposal kits

Drop a cover letter PDF, product datasheets, case-study images, and a pricing page into one ordered PDF for prospects. Reorder for each deal without exporting from your editor every time.

Why "in your browser" matters

Subformer's merge tool is a static page plus client-side JavaScript. Once it loads, you can disconnect from the internet and it still works. The PDFs and images you drop are passed to pdf-lib and pdfjs-dist in your browser's memory; no copy is ever sent anywhere. This is the same architecture every other Subformer file tool uses, and it's why we can offer it free without ads, accounts, or upload limits.
