M4A to MP3 Converter

Turn an M4A audio file from iTunes or Apple Music into an MP3 that plays on any device.

Why convert M4A to MP3?

M4A is how Apple stores audio — voice memos, iTunes Store purchases, Apple Music downloads, and iPhone recordings all land in this format. M4As are technically AAC audio inside an MP4 container, and while modern platforms play them fine, older car stereos, cheap MP3 players, and some Windows utilities still insist on MP3.

We decode the AAC track inside the M4A back to PCM, then re-encode it as MP3. It's a lossy-to-lossy conversion, so there's a small theoretical quality cost, but at 192 kbps or above the difference is inaudible in practice. If you have a choice, keep the M4A around for personal use and give out MP3s only when the destination demands it.
